A few months ago, Varun Kumar and his friends Prasoon Gupta, and Abhishek Sinha received some terrible news. A devastating infection (‘Lumpy Virus’) was spreading rapidly in parts of the country, ending the lives of nearly 57 thousand cattle dead so far.
Shocked into action, the entrepreneurs came together and launched an initiative to prevent this virus from claiming more lives.
“Lumpy virus has caused havoc in many states of the country. In states like Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and Gujarat, not enough space is left to bury cow carcasses. How could we turn a blind eye to this?”
When Varun Kumar, Abishek Sinha and Prasoon Gupta realised that not enough was being done to change the situation, they decided to step up themselves. Since the news first broke, they have been working with NGOs, volunteers and veterinarians on the ground to procure vaccines against the virus and to provide urgent treatment to suffering cattle.
Their team is spread over 7 cities and they are relentlessly working to save our Gau Mata.
As you read this, Lumpy Virus continues to spread rapidly, threatening to severely damage the cattle population.
They are suffering silently, unable to ask for help.
How can we let all these cattle die slowly?
In order to battle the virus, they need to undergo 5-7 days of medication. The cost associated with treatment for a single cow is between Rs 3000 - 5000.
Their team has already helped more than 1200 cows by giving them timely treatments. However, the scale of this devastation is so huge, that this is not enough.
The costs for maintaining and upscaling their operation have been estimated at Rs 25 Lakhs.
